The True Post (Web News)A Calgary police officer has been charged with theft from hardware stores after a series of incidents spanning over a year.
According to the Calgary Police Service (CPS), the investigation began earlier this month following multiple reports of thefts from hardware stores in the city and surrounding areas.
Police said more than $10,000 worth of merchandise was stolen over the course of a year. Following the investigation, a police officer was identified as a suspect.
Constable Bradley Tapper, a 20-year veteran of the service, has been charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. CPS confirmed that he has been relieved of his duties.
Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan stated, “When one of our own members is implicated in a criminal investigation, it impacts public trust and confidence in our service. It is our duty to ensure impartial and transparent investigations to uphold accountability and integrity.”
Tapper is expected to appear in court in September.
