The True Post (Web News) It has been announced that parliamentary elections will be held in Syria for the first time since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
Syria’s Supreme Electoral Committee for the People’s Assembly has officially announced that voting for parliamentary seats will take place on October 5 in all constituencies in the country. The announcement states that one-third of the 21 seats in parliament will be directly nominated by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, while the public will vote for the remaining seats.
It should be remembered that after years of civil war and intense clashes, Syrian rebels launched a major offensive against government forces in December last year, overthrowing Bashar al-Assad’s government. After capturing various cities, the rebels also took control of the capital Damascus on December 8, after which Bashar al-Assad fled the country.
After Assad fled the country, the head of the Syrian rebel organization Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, announced that former Prime Minister Muhammad Ghazi al-Jalali would run state institutions until a peaceful transfer of power was completed. According to political observers, these elections will prove to be very important in determining Syria’s political future and will decide in which direction the transitional system established after the civil war will move forward.
