The True Post (Web News) Israel has agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza after a day of intense bombardment.
According to the foreign news agency Reuters, the Israeli army said in a statement that it would implement the ceasefire agreement, but that any violation by Palestinian resistance groups would be met with a “strong response.”
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 104 Palestinians, including 46 children and 20 women, were killed in Israeli bombing in the past 24 hours. Authorities say that several residential buildings have been reduced to rubble, and hospitals are in chaos due to the influx of bodies and the wounded. Videos circulating on social media show the bodies of many women and children lined up in hospitals, illustrating the gravity of the tragedy.
The Israeli military’s position
The Israeli military accused Hamas of “violating the ceasefire agreement” and attacking Israeli soldiers, resulting in the death of one soldier. According to the military, airstrikes were carried out in response to the same attack on various areas of Gaza, targeting several Hamas members. Israel claims that the attacks killed several fighters, including a key commander, and destroyed weapons depots and underground tunnels.
On the other hand, Hamas has called the Israeli accusations “baseless”, saying that it was fully complying with the ceasefire agreement reached on October 10 and that there was no attack on Rafah. A Hamas spokesman said that the attacks carried out by Israel are actually a “clear violation of the agreement” and are aimed at sabotaging the ceasefire.
Global response and humanitarian crisis
There is growing global concern over the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza. According to international organizations, more than 69,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 2023, while millions have been injured or displaced. Lack of electricity, water, and medicine has made the situation even more serious, and hospitals are overflowing with the wounded.
