Fire In Gul Paza, Karachi, Brought Under Control After 36 Hours, 14 Dead, Many Injured, 65 Missing

The True Post (Web News) The fire that broke out in Karachi’s famous Gul Plaza has been completely extinguished, however, the human loss and financial loss in this tragic accident remains severe.

According to officials, the death toll in the tragedy has risen to 14, while 22 people are injured and 65 people are still missing. The incident took place on MA Jinnah Road at around 10:15 pm on Saturday night, when a fire broke out on the ground floor and engulfed the entire building. Several parts of the building collapsed during the fire and rescue operations are underway to remove the debris.

Fire brigade officials said in an initial report that the fire has been completely brought under control and the cooling process is underway, however, flames flare up again at some places. The fire officer warned that the building has become dilapidated and the pillars have become weak, due to which the building can collapse at any time. The cooling process requires time to avoid any further damage or accident.

According to reports, 1,200 shops in Gul Plaza have been completely gutted and initial estimates put the financial loss at around Rs 3 billion. Fire brigade and rescue teams are continuing to secure and remove debris from various parts of the building, in order to complete the search for missing persons and prevent further loss of life. The incident also highlights the dangers of old and poorly secured buildings in Karachi.
