Alberta Government Announces Major Investment to Expand Electronic Monitoring System

The True Post (Web News)The Alberta government has announced an investment of 4.1 million dollars over the next three years to expand its electronic monitoring program.

The program provides 24/7 supervision of offenders under court-ordered conditions, requiring them to wear GPS tracking devices. This system helps keep offenders away from victims’ homes, workplaces, and other protected locations.

Premier Danielle Smith said, “Victims should not have to live in fear. Real-time alerts and constant monitoring give them the information they need to protect themselves, while offenders are held accountable at all times. Public safety is our top priority, and we are using every tool available to enforce it.”

Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis added, “As a former police officer, I have seen the fear in a victim’s eyes when their attacker returns to the community. Our goal is not just to monitor crime, but to prevent the next victim.”

According to the government, the expansion will strengthen oversight of high-risk and repeat offenders while placing victims’ safety and confidence at the center of the justice system.
