Alberta Begins Preparations to End Biannual Clock-Changing System

The True Post (Web News) Preparations have begun to end the system of moving clocks forward and back twice a year in the Canadian province of Alberta, where the provincial government has indicated that it will maintain daylight saving time permanently.

Provincial Minister of Services Alberta Dale Neely confirmed to reporters in the Legislative Assembly on Monday that the government is going to implement a plan to keep the same time all year round.

According to him, the aim of this decision is to provide more light in the evening hours so that people can be more active in the latter part of the day. After this proposed change, citizens will neither have to turn their clocks back an hour in the fall nor advance an hour in the spring. However, one practical effect of this will be that there will be relatively less light in winter mornings while the evenings will remain brighter.

The change is likely to be introduced this week through a new law. Last month, Premier Daniel Smith announced a public consultation on the issue, especially given that neighbouring British Columbia has already decided to permanently maintain daylight saving time. He said most people prefer more light at night because it is already in effect for eight months of the year.
