US-Iran Deal Is Netanyahu’s Personal Defeat, Claims Israeli Analyst

Speaking to Arab TV, Gideon Levy said that the Iran issue has been Netanyahu’s lifelong plan, but the current agreement completely excluded Israel from the negotiation process, leaving Tel Aviv with only the option of sabotage. He claimed that the Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday were part of such efforts, despite these actions, it is now clear that Israel has suffered political losses in the entire process. The Israeli analyst said that the real test is yet to come and it will be seen to what extent US President Trump succeeds in keeping Israel under control, as Netanyahu may try to thwart any ceasefire agreement that does not meet Israel’s basic goals.

Gideon Levy warned that the agreement with Iran is still at a very delicate stage and the biggest test of its success will be the situation in Lebanon. According to him, Iran has been able to link the situation in Lebanon to the agreement, while the presence of Israeli troops in Lebanon could become a major obstacle to a ceasefire. Gideon Levy said that as long as Israeli forces remain in Lebanon and have no intention of withdrawing, establishing a complete ceasefire seems difficult because there is a possibility of continued resistance to the Israeli presence.
