U.S. Vice President JD Vance has claimed that some members of the Israeli government sought to undermine efforts aimed at reaching an agreement with Iran, suggesting that certain officials favored prolonging military confrontation rather than pursuing diplomacy.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Vance said he believes there were individuals within the Israeli government who wanted military action against Iran to continue and worked to prevent diplomatic progress.
“I believe there were people inside the Israeli government who wanted to keep the conflict with Iran going and attempted to sabotage efforts toward an agreement,” Vance said during the interview.
While emphasizing that the United States maintains strong ties with Israel, Vance noted that not everyone within the Israeli political system shares the same objectives. He argued that some officials attempted to influence American public opinion in favor of extending the conflict with Iran indefinitely.
The vice president added that it is common for both allies and adversaries to try to influence U.S. foreign policy.
“Many countries—whether they are allies or rivals—seek to influence American policy. That, by itself, is not unusual,” Vance explained. “What concerns me is when those influence campaigns begin to shape actual U.S. political decisions.”
During the podcast, Vance was also asked whether he believed recent U.S. military actions involving Iran were carried out primarily because of Israeli influence. He responded that he did not believe that was the case.
Vance stressed that President Donald Trump genuinely believes Iran should never obtain a nuclear weapon, adding that he personally shares that position.
The remarks have drawn attention as tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and regional security continue to be a major issue in U.S. foreign policy. Neither the White House nor the Israeli government immediately commented on Vance’s statements.
