The True Post (News Desk) — Voting has concluded in the third phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, with vote counting underway and unofficial, unconfirmed results emerging from several constituencies.
The third phase covered four seats in the Bagh and Haveli districts, where candidates faced closely watched contests. One of the biggest political upsets came in LA-14 Bagh-I, where former Azad Kashmir prime minister and Muslim Conference leader Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan lost his traditional home constituency.
Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan Defeated
Unofficial and unconfirmed results from all 214 polling stations in LA-14 Bagh-I have been received.
According to the results, Sardar Sajid Iqbal of the Jammu and Kashmir Dast-o-Bazoo Party won the constituency with 40,427 votes.
Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan secured 19,120 votes, giving Sajid Iqbal a winning margin of 21,307 votes.
The result is being viewed as a major political upset because Atiq Ahmed Khan, a former prime minister of Azad Kashmir and head of the Muslim Conference, was defeated in his home constituency.
Pakistan Peoples Party Leads in LA-15
In LA-15 Bagh-II, unofficial results from 45 of the 213 polling stations have been received.
Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Zia Qamar is currently leading with 5,200 votes, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas is in second place with 2,244 votes.
Results from the remaining polling stations are still awaited, meaning the final position in the constituency could change.
PML-N Ahead in LA-16
In LA-16 Bagh-III, results from 84 of the 186 polling stations have been received.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, PML-N candidate Sardar Mir Akbar Khan is leading with 9,243 votes.
Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Sardar Qamar Zaman Khan is currently in second place with 7,144 votes.
Mir Akbar Khan has a lead of 2,099 votes, although results from the remaining polling stations have yet to be announced.
PML-N Also Leads in LA-17
In LA-17 Bagh-IV, only two of the 199 polling stations have so far reported unofficial results.
PML-N candidate Chaudhry Mohsin Aziz is currently leading with 443 votes, while Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has received 344 votes.
Chaudhry Mohsin Aziz currently holds a lead of 99 votes, but results from the remaining 197 polling stations are still pending.
Counting Continues Across Azad Kashmir
Vote counting is continuing following the completion of polling in the third phase of the Azad Kashmir elections.
While several constituencies are witnessing close contests, the defeat of former Azad Kashmir prime minister and Muslim Conference chief Sardar Atiq Ahmed Khan in LA-14 Bagh-I has emerged as one of the most significant political developments of the election.
