The True Post — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Egypt could become part of the Makkah Agreement in the future, emphasizing that the agreement remains open to the participation of additional countries. He said member states share a collective responsibility to protect one another.
Egypt Could Join the Makkah Agreement
In an interview with Arab media, Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the possibility of Egypt joining the Makkah Agreement in the future. He said Egypt could become a member because the agreement allows room for additional parties to participate.
According to the Turkish president, the agreement is designed to promote cooperation and mutual support among participating countries, particularly in matters related to collective security. He said that if an external attack occurs against a member country, other members are expected to respond collectively.
Collective Defense Is a Key Principle
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that under the Makkah Agreement, member states attach importance to each other’s security. The concept of a joint response in the event that a member country faces an external threat or attack is one of the agreement’s key features.
He said the participation of additional countries could expand this cooperation and help establish a stronger regional security framework.
European Union Is Not Our Priority, Erdogan Says
The Turkish president also shared his views on the European Union. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the European Union is not Turkey’s priority.
He said Europe is currently facing a number of problems and setbacks, prompting Turkey to focus on other priorities while determining its foreign policy objectives.

He said keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed for an extended period would not serve anyone’s interests. He described restoring access through the important maritime route as necessary for both the region and global trade.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important maritime routes for the transportation of oil and energy. Any disruption to the route can affect not only the region but also global markets.
Important Statement Amid Changing Regional Situation
The Turkish president’s remarks come at a time when security and regional cooperation in the Middle East remain under intense international attention. The possible inclusion of additional countries in the Makkah Agreement could expand the scope of defense and diplomatic cooperation in the region.
