Date: October 1, 2026 The True Post (Web News) —A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged arson incident that damaged multiple homes in Ajax, Canada, last month. According to police, the suspect faces a total of 11 charges, including arson, unlawful entry into a dwelling, mischief causing significant property damage and breach of probation conditions.
Fire Incident
The incident occurred on August 24 near Rossland Road West and Church Street North in Ajax, where emergency services received a report of a fire in a residential neighbourhood.
Firefighters and other emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene. During the investigation, police treated the incident as a suspected deliberate act of arson rather than an accidental fire and began examining the circumstances from several angles.
Vacant House Targeted
According to investigators, the fire was started at a house that was unoccupied at the time. The flames initially spread through the vacant property before reaching nearby homes.
Police said the fire caused significant damage to multiple residential properties. Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control and prevent further damage to neighbouring houses.
Residents Were Inside Nearby Homes
Investigators also determined that people were present in at least one of the nearby homes affected by the fire.
According to police, the occupants managed to get out in time and move to safety. No injuries or fatalities were reported, although the damage to several homes raised concerns among residents in the area.
Flammable Substances
Police said investigators uncovered additional evidence during the investigation. According to authorities, flammable substances had also been thrown at several other homes, although those properties did not catch fire.
Police noted that if the substances had ignited, the damage to residential properties could have been more extensive and the safety of people inside the homes could have been put at risk.
Suspect Identified
Following their investigation, police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Ajax resident Rawshon Crafton.
According to police, Crafton was arrested on Monday. Following his arrest, he was charged with a total of 11 offences, including arson, unlawful entry into a dwelling, mischief involving property damage valued at more than $5,000 and breach of probation conditions.
Eleven Charges
The arson charge is particularly significant because investigators believe the fire was deliberately started at a vacant home before spreading to nearby properties.
The other charges include unlawful entry into a dwelling and causing property damage valued at more than $5,000. The accused also faces a charge of violating conditions associated with his existing supervision.
Court Appearance
Following his arrest, the accused was scheduled to appear in court the following day. The legal proceedings are expected to address the charges brought against him.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the case. Police have also not indicated whether investigators have identified any prior relationship or dispute between the accused and the occupants of the affected homes.
Further Investigation
Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire and assess the evidence relating to the charges against the accused.
The incident left residents of the affected homes dealing with property damage. The discovery that flammable substances had also been used against several other houses added to concerns within the local community.
Authorities said further information may become available as the investigation and court proceedings progress. For now, 24-year-old Ajax resident Rawshon Crafton faces 11 charges, and the case is before the courts.
