Date: October 8, 2026 The True Post (Web News) —Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Russia has carried out one of its largest attacks on Ukraine during the ongoing war, deploying dozens of missiles and drones. At least 11 people have been killed in attacks across several regions, according to Ukrainian officials.
Major Attack
According to the Ukrainian president, Russia fired approximately 70 missiles and drones in a single operation. He said one of the main targets was Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, raising concerns about disruptions to energy supplies in various regions.
Zelenskyy described the assault as one of Russia’s major attacks during the war, warning that operations of this scale pose serious risks to civilians and the country’s critical infrastructure.
11 People Killed
Ukrainian officials said at least 11 people were killed in the Russian attacks, while reports also indicated that several others had been injured. Rescue operations began in the affected areas following the strikes, and authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
Local authorities have continued to urge residents to remain vigilant and move to safe locations when air-raid warnings are issued.
Energy Infrastructure Targeted
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was specifically targeted in the Russian attacks. According to the president, strikes on electricity generation and transmission systems could create difficulties in maintaining energy supplies to urban areas.
Ukraine has previously faced damage to its energy system during Russian attacks. Damage to energy facilities during the colder months could place additional pressure on civilian life, industry and essential services.
Ballistic Missiles Pose a Major Challenge
The Ukrainian president said ballistic missiles used by Russia remain one of the biggest challenges facing Ukraine. He said the country needs more effective air-defence systems to counter Russian missile attacks.
Zelenskyy has also called on Western countries to help strengthen Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities. The aim, he said, is to protect residential areas, energy facilities and other critical installations from missile and drone strikes.
Russia Confirms Attacks
Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defence also confirmed that large-scale attacks had been carried out in various parts of Ukraine. Russian officials said their forces conducted operations in Kyiv and other locations, targeting Ukrainian military facilities.
According to Russia’s position, the purpose of the military operations was to strike facilities associated with the Ukrainian armed forces and other military targets. Ukrainian officials, however, said the attacks also damaged energy infrastructure and civilian areas.
Intensifying War
Missile and drone strikes have become important weapons in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Both countries have repeatedly claimed to target each other’s military facilities and critical infrastructure, while attacks have also caused casualties and property damage in civilian areas.
The latest assault has once again highlighted the challenges of protecting Ukraine’s airspace and energy infrastructure. Ukrainian officials say the country urgently needs modern defence systems and additional air-defence capabilities to counter Russian attacks.
Rescue and Recovery Operations
Following the attacks, emergency services and local administrations have been working in the affected areas. Authorities are assessing damaged or affected facilities, while efforts are also under way to restore energy supplies.
Officials said the process of determining the overall damage caused by the attacks is continuing. A clearer picture of the situation is expected to emerge as further details become available.
A New Phase in the War
Large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks, along with Ukraine’s response, have kept the intensity of the war high. The extensive use of missiles and drones in the latest operation has further highlighted the challenges Ukraine faces in defending its airspace.
Ukraine says attacks on energy infrastructure can disrupt civilian life, while Russia’s Ministry of Defence maintains that Ukrainian military facilities are the primary targets of its operations.
Despite the differences between the two sides’ accounts, the reported loss of life and damage to critical infrastructure have once again underscored the human cost of the war.
