MISSISSAUGA, Canada: Alvin Tedjo has reportedly won the Mississauga mayoral election, defeating former mayor Bonnie Crombie and incumbent mayor Carolyn Parrish in a major political upset.

Tedjo, who was considered a less-favoured candidate in early election assessments, emerged victorious after a campaign focused on the city’s future, practical solutions to residents’ concerns, and a commitment to change at City Hall.

According to the reported election results, Tedjo secured a lead of more than 20,000 votes over Parrish. Although the race initially appeared competitive, his support reportedly grew as the campaign progressed.

A Mandate for Change

Following his reported victory, Tedjo said his optimism, vision for Mississauga’s future, and continued efforts to connect with residents helped him reach this milestone.

He emphasized that his campaign focused on practical solutions capable of making a meaningful difference in people’s lives and earning the public’s trust.

Tedjo described his election as a historic decision by Mississauga residents in favour of change at City Hall. He also called becoming mayor the greatest honour of his life.

A Historic Political Achievement

Tedjo previously served as a city councillor representing Mississauga’s Ward 2.

He also contested the city’s 2024 mayoral by-election, finishing second. His reported victory in the 2026 election marks a significant turnaround in his political career.

According to the supplied report, Tedjo’s election would also mark the first time since 1978 that a man has become Mississauga’s mayor.

Property Tax Freeze Promise

Property taxes were among the key issues in Tedjo’s election campaign.

He pledged to freeze property taxes for two years if elected, a commitment that formed an important part of his platform.

Tedjo also received support from the Peel Regional Police union during the campaign, according to the report.

His ability to deliver on the tax freeze promise will be closely watched by residents as he prepares to take on the responsibilities of leading one of the Greater Toronto Area’s major municipalities.

Bonnie Crombie’s Political Comeback Bid Falls Short

Bonnie Crombie left the Mississauga mayor’s office in 2024 to pursue leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party.

After failing to secure a seat in the provincial election, she resigned as party leader in January 2026, according to the supplied report.

In July 2026, Crombie announced her decision to run for mayor again, seeking a return to the municipal leadership position she had previously held.

However, her comeback bid was unsuccessful, with Tedjo emerging as the reported winner of the contest.

Carolyn Parrish’s Mayoral Tenure

Carolyn Parrish became Mississauga’s mayor after winning the 2024 by-election triggered by Crombie’s departure.

She subsequently sought a full term in the 2026 municipal election but reportedly finished behind Tedjo.

The election result signals a change in Mississauga’s municipal leadership and places renewed attention on the priorities of the incoming administration.

What Comes Next for Mississauga?

Tedjo’s reported victory comes as Mississauga continues to face challenges involving housing affordability, population growth, transportation, infrastructure, and municipal spending.

Residents will now look to the incoming mayor to translate campaign promises into concrete results.

His proposed property tax freeze is likely to be one of the most closely monitored commitments, alongside plans for municipal services and the city’s long-term development.

The outcome also represents a setback for Crombie’s attempt to return to municipal politics and ends Parrish’s bid for a full mayoral term.
