Air Canada Complete Shutdown: Strike By 10,000 Employees Suspends Air Service

The True Post(Web News)Air Canada is facing a major crisis as flight operations have been suspended due to a full-scale strike by employees. The sudden decision has affected thousands of flights and left millions of passengers stranded.

According to foreign media, negotiations between Air Canada and the Canadian Union of Public Employees have been ongoing for the past eight months, but due to the failure to reach any conclusion, around ten thousand employees went on strike.

According to reports, Air Canada operates about 700 flights daily, and the closure will affect 130,000 passengers a day, while about 25,000 Canadians could be stranded abroad.

The employees say they are protesting against the lack of a significant increase in salaries and unpaid workload. On the other hand, the airline management maintains that it had offered the employees a 38 percent increase in total compensation, including salaries, benefits and pension, over four years. However, the union termed the proposal as inadequate, saying that only an 8 percent increase in the first year was not enough to reduce the burden of inflation.

Air Canada has announced that affected passengers can request a refund through the company’s website or mobile app. At the same time, management has assured that they will try to provide alternative travel facilities through other Canadian or foreign airlines, but due to busy schedules, it will not be possible to give a full guarantee.

The Air Canada strike has not only paralyzed the aviation system but has also created uncertainty among thousands of passengers.
