Polling for three refugee constituencies of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly will take place on August 2 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with election authorities confirming that all arrangements have been finalized.
Voters in LA-39 Jammu-6, LA-43 Valley-4, and LA-44 Valley-5 will elect their representatives during the second phase of the AJK elections. The Election Commission, district administration, and law enforcement agencies say comprehensive security and administrative measures are in place.
More Than 27,000 Registered Voters
According to the Election Commission, a total of 27,907 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots across the three constituencies.
The electorate includes 14,917 male voters and 12,990 female voters.
Constituency-wise voter figures are as follows:
- LA-39 Jammu-6: 20,807 registered voters
- LA-43 Valley-4: 3,346 registered voters
- LA-44 Valley-5: 3,754 registered voters
Thirty-Four Candidates in the Race
A total of 34 candidates are contesting the three seats.
In LA-39 Jammu-6, candidates include Raja Muhammad Siddique of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Chaudhry Fakhar Zaman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Muhammad Tahir Khokhar of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), along with other contestants.
In LA-43 Valley-4, Muhammad Yaseen Lone (PML-N), Javed Butt (PPP), and Hamza Majeed (IPP) are among the leading candidates.
In LA-44 Valley-5, Muhammad Ahmad Raza Qadri (PML-N), Muhammad Rashid Islam (PPP), Hanif Manzoor Dar (Jamaat-e-Islami), and Mehar-un-Nisa (Muslim Conference) are contesting the seat.
192 Polling Stations Established
The Election Commission has established 192 polling stations across the three constituencies.
- LA-39 Jammu-6: 155 polling stations
- LA-43 Valley-4: 10 polling stations
- LA-44 Valley-5: 27 polling stations
Authorities said 18 of the 100 polling stations in Rawalpindi district have been declared sensitive, where additional security personnel will be deployed.
Comprehensive Security Plan in Place
A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd.) Nadeem Nasir and City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera reviewed final election preparations.
Officials discussed enhanced security at sensitive polling stations, live CCTV monitoring linked with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, secure transportation of election materials, traffic management, and emergency response planning.
Authorities have directed all departments to ensure effective coordination for the smooth conduct of polling.

District officials said every effort is being made to provide voters with a safe and peaceful environment.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent, orderly, and fair elections, enabling citizens to exercise their democratic right without fear or disruption.
