The True Post (Web News) Britain has officially announced the restoration of diplomatic relations with Syria after 14 years.
The important announcement was made by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy during his visit to Syria, the first official visit by a British minister to Syria since 2011. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: “The UK views the new political developments in Syria positively, and it is in the UK’s long-term interest to support the new Syrian government.” He also announced £94 million in aid for Syria, which will be used to meet Syria’s humanitarian, economic and reconstruction needs.
Britain suspended diplomatic relations with Damascus after the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011. However, in recent years, in light of the changing circumstances in the Middle East and new prospects for stability in the region, Britain has announced a new policy. This development is being seen internationally as the beginning of a new diplomatic era in the Middle East, in which Western countries are re-establishing relations with Syria.
