The True Post( Web news)Canada Post says it has received strike notices from a union representing 55,000 postal workers.
The Crown Corporation says the notice states that employees plan to hit the pit line starting at midnight Friday.
Canada Post has confirmed it has received a strike notice from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), which represents more than 55,000 urban and rural employees.
The strike is likely to begin at midnight on Friday, May 23, 2025, as recent negotiations have ended without an agreement.
The strike is actually a continuation of a labour movement that began in November 2024, which was temporarily suspended in December under an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). The current agreements were extended until May 2025 to allow negotiations to continue, but differences between the parties remain.
If a strike begins, Canada Post will not accept new mail or parcels and delivery of existing items will be suspended.
This disruption could significantly impact mail and parcel delivery across the country, especially for international shipments.
If there is no progress in the talks, the strike could resume on May 23. Restoration of services will only be possible with government intervention or an agreement between the two parties.
