Corruption Probe in Calgary: Councillor and Former Mayor Under Investigation

The True Post(Web News)A long-standing Calgary city councillor, a former councillor, and the city’s previous mayor have reportedly come under investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in a corruption probe.

Ward 10 Councillor Andre Chabot confirmed outside council chambers during a lunch break from a public hearing on blanket rezoning that RCMP officers had visited his home last Thursday with a warrant. “I have no idea what the investigation is about,” Chabot told reporters. “All I know is I was asked to provide my devices for them to look at to gather evidence. I’m cooperating, and I hope it can be something they can utilize.”

According to reports, multiple unnamed sources confirmed that Chabot had his cellphone seized as part of the RCMP corruption investigation, which was prompted by a complaint filed with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) in October 2025. Several search warrants and production orders were executed last week, including at a local business and at a property belonging to former Ward 4 Councillor Sean Chu.

The investigation has also reportedly involved the city’s former mayor, though details regarding their involvement have not been fully disclosed.

This probe comes at a time when Calgary city council was holding a major public hearing on blanket rezoning, highlighting growing scrutiny over city governance and transparency. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
