The United Nations has warned that urgent measures are needed to provide clean drinking water, hygiene supplies and, in particular, the protection of women and girls in the affected areas. According to local authorities, a total of 798 people have died and more than 1,000 have been injured as a result of the recent flooding and landslides, a large number of whom are women and children.
