Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Commander Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh, where they discussed matters of mutual interest, defence cooperation and issues related to the Mecca Defence Cooperation Agreement.
During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continuing defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The two sides also discussed progress under the Mecca Defence Cooperation Agreement and other important matters related to the agreement.
Chiefs of Staff Meeting
The meeting also reviewed and appreciated the outcomes of the meeting of chiefs of staff from the countries participating in the Mecca Defence Cooperation Agreement.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made during the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to further advancing joint cooperation under the agreement.
Attacks on Saudi Arabia
Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prince Khalid bin Salman also discussed attacks targeting civilian and economic installations in Saudi Arabia, including Makkah.
The two leaders stressed the importance of mutual cooperation in responding to such attacks.
Joint Defence Cooperation
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman said in a statement posted on the social media platform X that the outcomes of the meeting of chiefs of staff of the countries involved in the Mecca Defence Cooperation Agreement were appreciated during his meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir.
He said both sides also expressed satisfaction with the progress made in connection with the meeting.
Commitment to Continued Cooperation Under the Agreement
According to Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will continue their efforts to respond to attacks through cooperation and joint initiatives within the framework of the Mecca Defence Cooperation Agreement.
He also reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.
Saudi Officials Also Present
The meeting was also attended by Saudi Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers and National Security Adviser Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Chief of the General Staff General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, and Defence Minister’s Adviser for Intelligence Affairs Hisham bin Abdulaziz bin Saif, along with other senior officials.
The meeting also covered defence ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and matters related to the regional security situation.
Pakistan-Saudi Defence Relations
Defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has continued for several decades. During the latest meeting, the two countries also agreed to maintain their joint defence cooperation and communication in the security sector.
Both sides considered progress under the Mecca Defence Cooperation Agreement important and reiterated their commitment to continuing joint efforts in responding to attacks and advancing defence cooperation in the region.
