Flash Floods Hit Rawalpindi After Torrential Rains; Evacuations Underway

The True Post (Web News)Torrential rains in Rawalpindi have triggered severe flooding in Nullah Lai, raising water levels to dangerous heights. Sirens were sounded at the Gawalmandi bridge as the water reached 15 feet, with evacuations set to begin if it crosses 20 feet.

Floodwaters have inundated low-lying areas, leaving hundreds stranded. Affected neighborhoods include Mohar Colony, Dhok Hassu, Pirwadhai, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Fauji Colony, and Dhok Matkyal. Several homes and connecting bridges are underwater.

In Chakri Road’s Ladian village, a family trapped on a rooftop was rescued by helicopter after ground teams failed to reach them.

Rescue 1122 is on high alert, responding to 27 emergencies with over 300 personnel and multiple vehicles. So far, 19 people have been rescued, with one hospitalized.

Rainwater has also entered homes in New Chakra and Tench Bhata, causing further distress. Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi has issued a stay-at-home advisory and declared a local holiday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an emergency meeting, seeking immediate reports from officials to assess the damage and coordinate response efforts.
