Flood-Damaged Bridges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Remain Mostly Closed, Recovery Efforts Ongoing

The True Post(Web News)In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, numerous bridges affected by recent floods remain largely closed to traffic. Out of 56 damaged bridges, only 9 have been fully reopened for vehicular movement.

According to the Department of Communications and Works, the incomplete restoration of 47 bridges continues to cause significant difficulties for local residents. Partial traffic has been restored on 36 of the damaged bridges, but full functionality is still pending.

Documents obtained by Dunya News reveal that in Mardan, none of the 16 destroyed bridges have been fully restored. In Upper and Lower Dir, 11 bridges were damaged, but not a single one has been fully reopened. In Swat, out of 8 affected bridges, only 2 are now open to traffic.

Floods have also left 2 bridges in Chitral unusable for traffic, while 4 bridges in Kohistan, 3 in Haripur, 2 in Kurram, and 2 in Mansehra are still awaiting repair.

Out of a total of 4,804 meters of bridge infrastructure across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,478 meters have been damaged. The restoration efforts are estimated to cost 557 million PKR for partial repairs and 1,768 million PKR for full rehabilitation.
