The True Post(Web Desk) – Google has temporarily removed its newly launched artificial intelligence (AI) feature from Google Earth just one day after its release, following the appearance of AI-generated content that violated the company’s content policies.
The company emphasized that the feature has not been permanently discontinued and could return after additional safety protections are implemented.
Inappropriate AI-Generated Content Prompts Action
According to Google, some users began creating and sharing AI-generated images that breached the company’s content guidelines.
To prevent misuse and maintain platform integrity, Google decided to temporarily disable the feature while improvements are made to its safety systems.
Google Prioritizes Trust and Accuracy
Google Earth Product Manager Brian Horowitz said users rely on Google Earth to explore accurate and trustworthy representations of locations around the world.
He added that maintaining the platform’s quality, reliability, and user trust remains Google’s top priority.
Useful for Professionals, but Misuse Emerged
Horowitz noted that professionals working in geography, urban planning, architecture, and research had already begun using the AI feature for productive purposes.
However, some users generated content that violated Google’s policies, prompting the company to suspend the tool until stronger safeguards are in place.
Google said the feature will not be restored until additional protections have been thoroughly tested.
Powered by Google’s “Nano Banana 2” AI Model
The new feature was powered by Google’s latest Nano Banana 2 AI model, allowing users to generate realistic visualizations of virtually any location by entering a simple text prompt.
The system combined Google Earth’s satellite imagery, aerial photography, and 3D mapping data to create highly realistic AI-generated scenes.
Watermarked Images and Limited Visibility
Google explained that every AI-generated image included a visible watermark to distinguish it from authentic imagery.
The generated images were also not publicly displayed to other Google Earth users.
Despite these precautions, the company decided to disable the feature temporarily while additional security and moderation measures are developed.
Feature Could Return After Safety Improvements
Google said its engineers are actively working on stronger content moderation tools and enhanced safety systems.
The company expects to relaunch the AI feature after implementing these improvements, allowing users to benefit from advanced AI capabilities while protecting platform integrity, transparency, and public trust.
