The True Post(Web News) Despite heavy rain on Australia’s famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, thousands of people held a peaceful but powerful demonstration against the ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza.
The unprecedented turnout at the protest march, titled “March for Humanity,” drew the international community’s attention to the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. The march was attended by people of all ages, races, and backgrounds—from senior citizens to young people, children, and their parents. Many protesters carried Palestinian flags, while others held up empty pots and pans to symbolize hunger and malnutrition. Participants chanted passionate slogans, including “We are all Palestinians.” According
to New South Wales Police, more than 90,000 people participated in the demonstration, although organizers claimed that the number of participants was closer to 300,000. The demonstration was granted legal permission after organizers won a court case, paving the way for the demonstration to be held officially.
Australian politicians also participated in the march, including Labor Party member Ed Hussain and prominent Greens Party senator Mehreen Farooqui. They called for strict diplomatic and trade sanctions against Israel and also demanded that Australia formally recognize the Palestinian state. Senator Mehreen Farooqui said in her speech that “this demonstration is not only an expression of solidarity with Palestine, but also a symbol of humanity, justice and the awakening of the global conscience.”
Although Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed support for a two-state solution, he is still reluctant to recognize a Palestinian state. On the other hand, in recent days, countries such as France, Canada and the United Kingdom have shown political willingness to recognize a Palestinian state, to which Israel has reacted strongly and condemned these decisions.
This demonstration is a manifestation of growing support for the Palestinian cause not only in Australia but also globally. Public pressure and the international demand for the establishment of a Palestinian state have gained new strength, especially at a time when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has intensified and voices are being raised against it in different parts of the world. The “March for Humanity” has sent the message that ordinary people in different regions of the world share equally in the suffering of the Palestinian people and the global conscience no longer wants to remain silent.
