Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged countries across the region not to support any new US military campaign against Iran, calling instead for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further military action.

In an interview with Russian television, Araghchi said he hoped regional countries had learned from past events and recognised that the presence of US military bases did not necessarily guarantee their security.

He maintained that Iran had not targeted its Gulf neighbours and that its military operations were directed exclusively at American military bases in the region.

According to Araghchi, Tehran had already warned neighbouring countries that US military installations in the region could be targeted if Iran came under attack.

Iran Says Gulf Countries Were Not Its Targets

Araghchi said Iran had provided advance notice of its position regarding possible retaliation against an American attack.

He argued that Iran should not be held responsible for the consequences of missile strikes in Gulf countries, maintaining that Tehran’s intended targets were US military facilities rather than neighbouring states.

The Iranian foreign minister said friendly countries in the region were increasingly recognising that American military bases could not guarantee their protection.

He also questioned whether these installations had the ability to defend themselves effectively, suggesting that regional countries should reconsider their reliance on foreign military bases for security.

Friendly Countries Should Prevent Another US War

Araghchi appealed to regional governments to avoid encouraging a new American war against Iran.

He said countries with friendly relations with Tehran should use their influence to discourage Washington from launching another military campaign.

Instead of allowing military tensions to escalate, he urged regional states to pursue diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring stability.

The Iranian foreign minister said countries in the region should learn from previous conflicts and avoid decisions that could push the entire region towards another war.

He stressed that regional governments should prioritise peace and stability rather than actions that could increase the likelihood of further military confrontation.

Security Concerns Behind Absence of New Supreme Leader’s Images

During the interview, Araghchi was also asked about the activities of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and the lack of publicly released photographs showing him.

Araghchi attributed the absence of new images to security concerns, saying Iran faced adversaries who might attempt to target prominent figures.

He said authorities had to exercise extreme caution to protect the country’s leadership.

According to the foreign minister, Mojtaba Khamenei is overseeing major national affairs in his capacity as supreme leader, with important state decisions being presented to him.

Araghchi described him as actively carrying out his responsibilities despite the security challenges facing the country.

He added that the protection of senior officials could not be overlooked under the current circumstances, given the potential threat of targeted attacks.

The Iranian foreign minister’s remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and renewed calls for diplomatic efforts to prevent another military confrontation involving Iran and the United States.
