Jasper Mayor“ Stands by Wildfire Report; No Conflict with Province”

Jasper’s Mayor Richard Ireland reaffirmed his full support for the town-commissioned wildfire report, which scrutinizes the provincial government’s response to last summer’s devastating blaze. He emphasized that the report is aimed solely at improving future wildfire strategies and carries no political intent or blame.

Speaking on July 21, 2025, Mayor Ireland dismissed suggestions that the report would create tensions with the provincial government. He stated, “There is no suggestion in that report that any disruption led to any negative consequence,” and confirmed that Jasper and the province would continue collaborating on recovery efforts.

With the community approaching the one-year anniversary of the wildfire an event that forced the evacuation of 25,000 people and destroyed nearly a third of the town the mayor’s stance highlights a unified path forward for rebuilding and resilience.
