The True Post (Web News)After the US attacks on Iran on Saturday night, Prime Minister Mark Carney has called on the parties to immediately return to the negotiating table and reduce hostilities in the Middle East. He said Iran’s nuclear program is a serious threat to international security and Canada has been consistently clear that Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
While the US military action taken last night was designed to reduce that threat, the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile. Stability in the region is a priority.
The overnight attacks on Iran came after a week of attacks between Israel and Iran and amid stalled talks with the United States about Iran’s efforts to produce enriched nuclear material. In an address on Saturday, Trump said the goal of the attacks was to destroy Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and deter the nuclear threat.
Trump added that the facilities had been completely wiped out but warned that if Iran failed to make peace, more devastating attacks could follow.
