The True Post (Web News) The holy city of Medina, Saudi Arabia, has once again won the title of the world’s healthiest city.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has re-accredited Medina as a healthy city after meeting 80 of its stringent criteria, demonstrating the city’s remarkable progress in development, public health, environmental improvement, and urban amenities.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Prince Salman bin Sultan, Governor of Medina, received the World Health Organization certificate in the presence of the Saudi Minister of Health. On this occasion, Prince Salman said that Medina’s regaining the status of a healthy city is a clear example of the firm commitment of the kingdom’s leadership to improving the welfare and quality of life of its citizens.
He said that the continuous development and improvement of Madinah has become an exemplary model not only in Saudi Arabia but also at the regional and international levels. It should be noted that Madinah was first awarded the status of a healthy city in 2019, and now receiving this honor for the second time is an expression of the city’s ongoing sustainable improvement in the areas of urban planning, health facilities, public services, clean environment and social welfare.
Under the World Health Organization’s Healthy Cities Program, cities are evaluated in various categories, including areas such as public health facilities, availability of clean drinking water, environmental protection, air quality, cleanliness of public places, citizen participation, initiatives promoting a healthy lifestyle and social justice. Along with Madinah, Taif, Tabuk, Daraa and 14 other Saudi cities have also been included in the list of the healthiest cities, which is a manifestation of the government’s priorities for public welfare and modern urban development under the Saudi Vision 2030.
This success of Madinah is not only local but also global. It also highlights Saudi Arabia’s vision of health and urban development at the grassroots level, where the best balance is being struck between traditional values and a modern lifestyle.
