The True Post (Web News)Emergency responders closed a section of Highway 416 in Ontario for several hours on Monday evening following a collision involving a construction vehicle.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers from the Greenview Division were called to the southbound highway near Rideau River shortly after 9 p.m. Upon arrival, it was reported that a pickup truck had struck a stationary construction vehicle, which typically serves as a safety barrier between fast-moving traffic and road workers.
Firefighters from North Greenview and paramedics from Leeds-Greenview also attended the scene. The pickup truck driver was transported to a hospital as a precaution, and the construction vehicle operator underwent medical evaluation. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Police stated that the pickup truck driver, Cole Ramsey, 24, of Iroquois, is facing multiple charges, including dangerous driving, impaired driving, driving with blood alcohol over the legal limit, and having an open alcohol container in the vehicle.
Ramsey has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in November. His driver’s license has been suspended, and his vehicle has been impounded.
This is the second incident involving a collision with a construction vehicle in the Ottawa area within the past month. On September 30, a vehicle collided with a safety vehicle on the westbound Highway near Pinemoor Road in western Ottawa, resulting in minor injuries. The driver in that incident was charged with careless driving and received a $490 fine and three demerit points.
Police have once again reminded drivers to exercise extreme caution when driving through construction zones.
