“Ontario Wildfire Smoke Pushes Toronto’s Air Quality to Worst Levels Globally”

The True Post (Web News)Environment Canada has warned that smoke from ongoing wildfires in Northern Ontario will continue to linger over Toronto and surrounding areas in the coming days, further deteriorating air quality across the region.

On Monday, a thick blanket of smoke covered the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), pushing the city’s air quality into one of the worst levels globally. The smoke created hazy and dusty conditions across much of the city.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Environment Canada noted that wildfire smoke is contributing to reduced visibility and poor air quality throughout the region. The agency also cautioned that these effects can vary by location and even shift hourly, depending on the density of the smoke.

The smoky conditions are expected to persist through Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday.

According to officials, the increasing smoke levels also raise health concerns, particularly for vulnerable populations. People may experience eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, or mild coughing, while more serious but less common symptoms could include wheezing, chest pain, or persistent coughing.

The agency has advised residents to consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor activities, especially for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

Forecast:

Following the long weekend, the GTA is expected to see dry weather and moderate temperatures throughout the week. Gradual warming is forecast, with highs reaching 30°C by Thursday and humidex values possibly climbing to 34°C.
