The day began with Quran recitation in mosques and prayers for the safety of Pakistan. Scholars organized special prayers for the prosperity of Pakistan.
The scholars said that May 28th is a very important day in the history of Pakistan. Pakistan is stronger and more stable today, and the pride of the entire nation is higher than ever.
On May 28, 1998, Youm-e-Takbir, Pakistan carried out six nuclear tests in response to India’s five nuclear tests, restoring the balance of power in the region. Pakistan asserted its right to defend itself. The world heard the cry of Allahu Akbar from the mountains of Chagai, and Pakistan emerged as the world’s seventh nuclear power and the first in the Islamic world.
Today is a public holiday across the country in connection with Youm-e-Takbir. Special events will be held and salutes will be paid to the guardians of the homeland.
Messages from the President, Prime Minister and Interior Minister
The President and the Prime Minister, while congratulating the nation on Youm-e-Takbir, said that today we demonstrated our nuclear capabilities.
President Asif Ali Zardari said that acquiring nuclear power was a wise decision to maintain peace through force. Pakistan’s nuclear capability is a guarantee of peace. Pakistan does not seek war, adheres to the principles of peaceful coexistence and respect for international law. Pakistan demonstrated strategic restraint and commitment to peace in the face of Indian aggression.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in his message that Youm-e-Takbir is a day of unity of the nation and a declaration of non-compromise on its freedom and sovereignty. Today, we pledge to make Pakistan an economic powerhouse and give it a real place in the world.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, while congratulating the nation on Youm-e-Takbir, said that on May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted nuclear explosions and convinced the world that we are always ready to give a befitting reply to any enemy’s adventure. May 28 is a day of pride and honor for every Pakistani.
He said that scientists, Pakistani forces and political leadership laid the foundation of an invincible Pakistan. The nation salutes all scientists. Your feat is a golden chapter in defense history. Despite global pressure, economic sanctions and threats, carrying out nuclear explosions in 1998 is a high example of courage and solidarity. Youm-e-Takbir is a day of our self-reliance, national unity and strategic autonomy.
Mohsin Naqvi said that the enemy will always remember the lesson of May 10. India knows that Pakistan’s defense capability is invincible and now it will think a hundred times before any misadventure.
