According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought a detailed report from the Chairman Senate and the Speaker National Assembly in this regard. In light of the report, the Prime Minister will take a final decision on the salary increase.
Sources say that the Prime Minister has directed action taking into account the public reaction to the salary increase and the economic situation.
It should be noted that just a day before presenting the budget, the government had issued a notification for a 500% increase in the salaries of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate. Now, the monthly salaries of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate have been increased from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1.3 million, while the increase in salaries will also be implemented from January 1, 2025.
On the other hand, Defense Minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, after public criticism of the increase in salaries of the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Senate, and others, has called it economic obscenity. In his statement on social media, he opposed the increase in salaries and financial incentives.
