The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) announced its decision after months of hearings concerning the violent protests that erupted following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on May 9, 2023. The case involved charges of incitement, vandalism, and attacks on military and government properties during the unrest.
According to court sources, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, along with multiple PTI workers, was found guilty under various anti-terrorism provisions. The court cited video evidence and eyewitness testimonies in reaching its decision.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, however, was acquitted due to lack of direct evidence connecting him to the violence. Legal analysts view the ruling as a significant development in the ongoing legal crackdown on PTI leadership.
The verdict has drawn mixed reactions, with PTI condemning the sentencing as politically motivated, while government officials lauded the decision as a step towards upholding law and order.
