Growing Threat of Fake Videos
While hosting the reality show Bigg Boss, Salman Khan discussed social media trolling and emerging trends in the online world. During the conversation, he revealed that he himself had been targeted by fake videos generated using artificial intelligence.
The actor said technology has advanced to the point where a person’s voice can be cloned and videos can be manipulated in ways that make it difficult to distinguish authentic material from fabricated content.
Voices and Videos Can Be Manipulated
According to Salman Khan, artificial intelligence can be used to alter a person’s voice and video so that it appears they are saying something they have never actually said.
He explained that someone’s speech can be manipulated to make it appear as though they are using abusive language. Such alterations can damage a person’s reputation and mislead viewers who believe the content is genuine.
Salman Khan Says He Has Also Been Targeted
Salman Khan revealed that videos featuring him have also been manipulated through artificial intelligence and voice dubbing, changing the original content.
He said the situation becomes more serious when someone mistakes a fabricated video for authentic material and shares it with others, causing more people to believe the misleading content.
The widespread circulation of such videos can make it increasingly difficult for viewers to determine whether a recording accurately represents what a person actually said or did.
Calls for Action Against Deliberate Misuse
The actor said there is a difference between someone unknowingly sharing a fake video because they believe it to be genuine and someone deliberately creating and distributing fabricated material despite knowing the truth.
According to Salman Khan, strict action should be taken against those who knowingly produce and spread such content.
He went as far as suggesting that those responsible should be sent to prison. He argued that unless strong action is taken against at least some offenders, discouraging others from engaging in the practice could prove difficult.
Need for Stronger Laws
Salman Khan also emphasised the need for stricter legislation and effective monitoring of social media platforms to address the growing problem of AI-generated fake content.
He said measures should be introduced to make it possible to take action against individuals who create fabricated videos and deliberately circulate them to mislead others.

Ordinary People May Be More Vulnerable
Salman Khan also highlighted that the problem is not limited to film stars and other public figures.
He noted that celebrities generally have access to greater resources and may be able to contact cybersecurity organisations or relevant authorities to help identify those responsible for creating fake content.
Ordinary citizens and their families, however, often lack similar resources and support.
The actor warned that fabricated videos, cloned voices and negative propaganda targeting ordinary people could have serious consequences for their private lives, reputations and families.
