The True Post | ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan’s second powerful monsoon spell has caused widespread destruction across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Punjab, leaving at least 12 people dead and 15 others injured due to heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides.
The severe weather has damaged roads, bridges, homes, and hotels, while rising river levels have prompted emergency measures in several districts.
Heavy Rains Cause Widespread Damage
Continuous torrential rainfall has disrupted daily life in multiple regions, with rescue teams carrying out emergency operations in affected areas. Local administrations have urged residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel as more rain is expected.
Flash Flood Sweeps Away Vehicles in Khyber District
In Khyber District, heavy rainfall triggered a sudden flash flood that swept away several vehicles.
Floodwaters also reached sections of the Pak-Afghan Highway, submerging parts of the road and severely disrupting traffic.
Authorities have advised residents to stay away from floodwaters while rescue teams continue relief operations.
Landslide Closes Naran–Jalkhad Road
In Kaghan Valley, a major landslide near Sohuch blocked the Naran–Jalkhad Road, leaving many tourists stranded.
Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear debris and reopen the highway, but ongoing rainfall continues to hamper restoration efforts.
Bridges Washed Away, Homes and Hotels Damaged
Strong flood currents washed away three connecting bridges, cutting off several villages from nearby areas.
Multiple homes and hotels also suffered damage as water levels in the Kunhar River continued to rise, raising concerns for residents living in low-lying communities.
Two Children Killed in Mardan Roof Collapse
In Mardan, two children lost their lives after the roof of a house collapsed during heavy rainfall.
A woman and a young girl were injured and transported to hospital for treatment.
Officials have advised the public to avoid staying in weak or damaged buildings during the ongoing monsoon season.
Flash Floods Hit Azad Kashmir
In Neelum Valley, the Kathapiran stream overflowed after intense rainfall, carrying large rocks and debris downstream.
Authorities warned residents living near rivers and streams to remain cautious and avoid entering flood-prone areas.
Flood Warning Issued for Chenab River
In Punjab, rising water levels in the Chenab River have created flood-like conditions.
Local authorities in Wazirabad have instructed residents in nearby low-lying areas to evacuate to safer locations, while a low-level flood warning has also been issued for Chiniot.
Emergency officials continue to monitor river conditions across the province.
Rain Brings Relief to Major Cities
Meanwhile, rainfall in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and several other cities has brought cooler temperatures and relief from the recent heatwave.
However, authorities have advised residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious due to the risk of urban flooding.
More Heavy Rain Expected Until July 24
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast additional heavy rainfall across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan through July 24.
Officials have warned of continued risks of flash floods, landslides, and overflowing streams, urging the public to monitor weather updates, follow official advisories, and contact emergency services in case of any emergency.
