Severe Heat Warning Issued for Calgary

The True Post (Web News)This extreme heat in Calgary comes at a time when the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued new guidelines to help protect workers from rising heat stress.

Reports highlight that increasing global temperatures pose a major public health risk for laborers, exposing them to dehydration, heat stroke, and cardiovascular or kidney problems.

For many workers in Calgary, the heat has made conditions especially difficult.

Construction worker Mark Williams advised:
“Stay cool, take regular breaks, drink lots of water, spend time indoors when possible, and avoid heavy clothing.”

Another worker, Sonam Topden, who has been in the construction industry for nearly two decades, said:
“No one else is going to pay your bills, so no matter the weather, you still have to put in your eight hours.”

Environment Canada further advised people to watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, and severe fatigue.

Residents are also encouraged to schedule outdoor activities for the early morning or evening, when conditions are relatively cooler.
