Muhammad Amanullah
Date: October 5, 2026 The True Post (Web News) —Iran has once again clarified its position on the Strait of Hormuz, saying that normal maritime traffic will not fully resume until certain conditions agreed upon through an interim understanding with the United States are addressed.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that Tehran has received proposals from Washington through intermediaries, but Iran remains firm on its position.
According to the Iranian side, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is linked to the implementation of seven conditions discussed during the reconciliation process hosted by Pakistan in June.
Iran’s Position
Tehran says that the agreed conditions must be addressed before normal maritime activity through the Strait can be restored.
Iran has also indicated that it does not want negotiations based on unilateral demands. Instead, Tehran is calling for reciprocal steps, mutual understanding and practical implementation of any agreement.
US Proposals
Iran says the United States has recently sent proposals through intermediaries. However, Tehran has not indicated that it has accepted these proposals.
The key disagreement appears to concern which side should take the first steps and how the agreed conditions should be implemented.
Why the Strait of Hormuz Matters
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important waterways. It connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is a major route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.
Any prolonged disruption could affect:
-
Global oil and gas supplies
-
Shipping and insurance costs
-
Energy prices
-
International trade
-
Regional economic stability
The Role of Mediation
Countries including Pakistan and Qatar have been involved in diplomatic efforts and the exchange of messages between Iran and the United States.
The immediate challenge is finding a framework that both sides can accept and implement.
What Happens Next?
At this stage, there is no confirmed date for the full restoration of normal traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The reopening appears to remain linked to diplomatic progress and the implementation of the conditions being discussed between Iran and the United States.
The situation remains fluid, and any announcement regarding the reopening of the Strait should be checked against official statements from the governments involved.
