The True Post(Web News) At the recent meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Denmark and Russia have strongly warned the international community about the growing threats posed by extremist groups operating in Afghanistan, especially Fitna al-Kharij.
Both countries made it clear that the growing activities of these groups in the region have become a major challenge to the peace of Central and South Asia, including Pakistan.
Addressing the meeting, Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzia said that the presence of several terrorist organizations in Afghanistan is destabilizing the region. According to him, there is a real risk of the spread of terrorism from Afghanistan to not only Central Asia but also to other regions. He added that ISIS Khorasan is accelerating its activities and becoming more organized, while the use of modern weapons and technology left in the region after the withdrawal of Western forces is increasing the capabilities of terrorist groups. The Russian representative warned that this situation could seriously harm regional peace and security.
Danish Permanent Representative Christina Marks Larsen said in her address that the banned TTP, also known as Fitna al-Kharij, receives practical support from the Afghan authorities. According to him, there are about **6,000** TTP fighters in Afghanistan who are involved in planning and executing major attacks across the border in Pakistan. Larsen stressed that this problem does not only affect Pakistan but is a continuous and serious challenge to peace in the entire region.
According to international observers, terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan are further fueling the already existing instability in the region, and their ambitions are becoming a direct threat to the peace, trade, and security structures of South and Central Asia.
