U.S. President Donald Trump has alleged that China is attempting to hack American election data and interfere in the United States electoral process, calling for an immediate investigation into the matter.
Speaking during a televised address to the nation and later at the White House, Trump claimed that China wants him to lose the presidential election and has sought to influence U.S. public opinion against him.
The president announced that intelligence documents related to election security should be declassified without delay. He also said he has directed the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate China’s alleged activities.
Trump further alleged that China interfered with data connected to the 2020 U.S. presidential election, arguing that the release of classified documents would expose weaknesses in the country’s election system.
He claimed that Beijing attempted to create a negative public perception of him among American voters, though he did not publicly provide evidence to support the allegations during his remarks.
In addition to his comments on election security, Trump praised the U.S. military, calling it “the greatest military in the world.”
The president also renewed his support for stricter election security measures, urging Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which includes voter identification requirements. He further criticized television networks that did not broadcast his speech live, suggesting their broadcasting licenses should be revoked.
China has repeatedly denied accusations of interfering in U.S. elections, and no immediate response from Chinese officials regarding Trump’s latest claims was available at the time of publication.
