Ford made the statement during an interview on CNN, where he discussed Trump’s popularity and Canada-US trade relations. Ford said that Trump’s popularity is so low in Canada that he is “probably the most disliked politician in the world,” and one reason for this is his attack on a close family member. Ford added that, according to him, many members of the Republican Party in the United States also disagree with Trump, but they do not express it publicly out of fear.
Trump recently imposed a 35% tariff on Canadian products, to which Ford demanded a “dollar-for-dollar” tariff in response. Ford said on the occasion that he was concerned about Trump’s changes to the Canada-US trade agreement. He also said that he prays that things get better, but if they don’t, he will ask people if they trust Trump. Despite this, Trump played down Ford’s statements and ignored his actions.
