Trump’s Gaza Deal Is A Great And Rare Opportunity For Peace, Says Pakistan

The True Post(Web News) – Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, termed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan as a rare opportunity to promote peace, saying that these measures have been prepared in consultation with the OIC and Arab states and Pakistan will continue to actively participate in this consultative process.

Asim Iftikhar made it clear that any plan of action must ultimately be based on full Palestinian ownership and participation. He said that a lasting political solution to the conflict is not possible without ending the occupation of the occupied territories, and that an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Gaza is essential for this purpose.

The Pakistani delegate, in another important warning, pointed out that Israel’s E-One settlement plan is a direct attack on the fundamental concepts of the two-state solution. He said that this attempt to separate East Jerusalem and affect the geographical integrity of the West Bank is a clear violation of international law and resolution 2334. If the Security Council fails to implement its agreed resolutions, its credibility will be seriously jeopardized, he stressed the responsibility of international institutions.

Asim Iftikhar gave a detailed account of the current humanitarian situation in the occupied territories, noting that the death toll has reached nearly 66,000, with the majority of them being women and children. He said that Gaza is not only being subjected to aggression and bombardment, but is also suffering from deliberate famine, destruction of basic infrastructure, and shortages of food and medicine. The ongoing military operations have displaced nearly one million people, and many of the victims do not have adequate shelter.

The delegate also noted that the evidence includes some positive developments, such as conferences on the two-state solution hosted by France and Saudi Arabia and moves by several countries to grant statehood to Palestine, but he called for these statements to be translated into practical actions and not just rhetoric.

The demands raised by Pakistan include an immediate and permanent ceasefire, an end to the blockade, and unhindered humanitarian access to the victims. They further called for the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, a complete halt to forced evictions, and a categorical rejection of any annexation of Gaza or the West Bank. Direct, time-bound steps should be taken for the full implementation of Resolution 2334 to ensure the viability of the two-state solution.

Finally, Asim Iftikhar stressed that a credible and irreversible political process must be launched immediately that will ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He said that the current suffering of the Palestinian people is one of the worst images in human history and that the value and dignity of the multilateral system can be preserved not only by statements, but also by concrete and timely practical measures.
