Islamabad – As climate change continues to push global weather patterns to extremes, Pakistan may face one of the highest temperatures ever recorded on Earth this week. According to a report published by the Washington Post, temperatures in South Asia could soar up to 50°C, with central and southern regions of Pakistan expected to be the hardest hit.
The report warns that parts of Pakistan could experience extreme heat levels rarely seen, potentially matching or surpassing the all-time high of 50.2°C recorded in Nawabshah in April 2018 — which still stands as Asia’s hottest temperature for that month.
Meteorological Department Forecasts Westerly Winds and Possible Rain
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecasted a spell of westerly winds likely to affect the upper regions of the country starting from the evening of April 30. This weather system is expected to persist until May 5 and may bring much-needed rainfall to certain areas.
According to the department, moist winds are likely to enter northeastern Punjab from May 1, bringing chances of thunderstorms and light to moderate rain across upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Kashmir.
Health and Safety Advisory
Weather experts are advising citizens to take precautionary measures during this intense heatwave. Avoiding direct exposure to sunlight, staying hydrated, and limiting outdoor activities during peak hours are essential to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke.
This extreme weather is a stark reminder of the growing challenges posed by climate change, and authorities are urging people to stay informed and take appropriate safety measures.
