The True Post(Web News) Ontario’s Ford government has appointed supervisory officers to the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) amid allegations of financial mismanagement.
Education Minister Paul Calandra said that these boards did not properly use the funds provided for the welfare of students and spent more on the central bureaucracy. This step was taken by Minister Calandra in connection with the reforms in the administrative structure of school boards.
According to him, it is the responsibility of the trustees of each school board to use the funds provided by the province for the welfare of students and teachers.” The appointment of supervisory officers to these boards will place their day-to-day decisions under the provincial government, which will eliminate the administrative powers of the elected trustees.
Earlier, on April 23, Minister Calandra also appointed a supervisor to the Thames Valley District School Board and ordered the Brant Haldemand Norfolk Catholic District School Board to return the money spent on a trip to Italy. Under these measures, the provincial government has sought to increase transparency and accountability in the financial affairs of school boards.
