Strong Earthquake Near Russia, Magnitude 8.7 Recorded, Tsunami Warning

The True Post (Web News) A powerful 8.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded this morning in the sea near the Kamchatka region of Russia.

After which a tsunami warning has been issued for Japan, Russia, Alaska, Hawaii and various areas of the Pacific Ocean. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred at 8:25 am local time. Initially, its magnitude was reported as 8.0, which was later increased to 8.7.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 19.3 km in the sea, about 250 km off the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. Japanese authorities had initially predicted a tsunami of 1 meter high but later updated the warning to indicate waves of 3 meters high. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi warned citizens that residents of affected coastal areas should immediately move to safe places or higher ground because the second and third tsunami waves could be more dangerous than the first.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake could also trigger severe tsunami waves in other areas of the Pacific Ocean, which could reach the coastal areas of Japan, Russia and Hawaii within the next three hours. The National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has also issued a warning for Hawaii, saying that waves generated by the earthquake could affect all of the Hawaiian Islands. The Alaska National Tsunami Warning Center has also issued its own warning, indicating a potential threat to the coastal areas of the Aleutian Islands, California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. The Japanese government has established an emergency task force to monitor the situation and respond in a timely manner.

According to geologists, since the epicenter of the earthquake was relatively close to the surface, the risk of a tsunami increases. It should be noted that in early July this month, five earthquakes occurred in the sea near the Kamchatka region of Russia, the largest of which had a magnitude of 7.4. Experts have expressed concern that if the current earthquake intensity and wave strength reach the level of 1952, there could be widespread damage in other areas, including Hawai
