The True Post (Web News) The government of the Canadian province of Alberta has introduced a new Alberta Energy Rebate Program to provide relief to citizens from the rising prices of groceries, fuel and other daily essentials. Under this program, eligible citizens will be able to receive $100 in financial assistance by applying through the government’s secure online portal starting July 1, 2026.
According to the government, the new energy rebate program will replace the fuel tax relief program from July 1. Officials say that under the new scheme, each individual will benefit from about 50 percent more than the fuel tax savings over an average of three months, while citizens will also gain more freedom and convenience in spending this money according to their needs.
To receive the rebate, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age as of July 1, 2026, be an Alberta resident, have filed a 2025 tax return, and have a gross household income of $225,000 or less.
The government has clarified that people receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped), people transferring to the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP), and income support recipients will not need to apply to receive the rebate, as they will be automatically included in the program.
According to the government’s definition, a “household” for the purpose of this program is one person or two people living in a married or common-law relationship. However, adults living at the same address who are not married or common-law partners, such as roommates, children over 18 years of age, or other adult family members, will be considered separate households and each adult must apply separately to receive the rebate.
Household income will be determined based on information provided to the Canada Revenue Agency in the 2025 tax return. This will calculate household income by subtracting pension distributions, tuition expenses and certain medical expenses from total income.
To apply, citizens must first log in to their verified Alberta.ca account or create a new account and complete verification. They can then submit their application through an online portal that will open on July 1.
According to the Alberta government, successful applicants will be provided with a $100 rebate within 14 days of submitting their application.
