Several flights, trains and ferries have been cancelled and entertainment events have been postponed due to strong winds and heavy rain. A wind warning is in place for Scotland, Ireland, northern England and Yorkshire. Several leisure facilities in Yorkshire have been closed, while traffic has been disrupted by fallen trees and roadblocks.
Amber and yellow warnings have been issued for various parts of the UK. An amber warning is in effect in Scotland from 10am, while a yellow warning has been issued for northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland from 6am. Rail services north of Newcastle have been suspended, and rail passengers north of Preston have been advised not to travel. All flights from Glasgow to the Scottish Isles have been cancelled. Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh has been closed, while the “Fringe by the Sea” festival in Northbrook has also been postponed. Drivers have been advised to exercise extreme caution.
