The True Post(Web News) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Finance to immediately contact the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide relief in electricity bills in flood-affected areas.
According to sources, the Prime Minister has directed the Finance Ministry officials to hold formal talks with the IMF regarding a one-month electricity bill waiver or exemption for flood victims. He said the aim is to provide immediate relief to the people who have lost their homes and farms in difficult circumstances.
Sources further said that this relief will be provided in all flood-affected areas of the country, be they in cities or rural areas.
It may be recalled that earlier, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also demanded the government to waive the electricity bills of farmers in flood-affected areas. On the other hand, the Prime Minister has already announced the imposition of an agricultural and meteorological emergency in the country to deal with natural disasters and ensure the immediate rehabilitation of the victims.
