Ottawa Family Appeals to Canada Over Immigration Delays Following Tragic Killings

The True Post (Web News)The family of a man whose wife and four children were brutally murdered in Ottawa last year is now facing immigration challenges and appealing to the Canadian federal government for help.

The tragedy occurred in March 2024 when Febrio De-Zoysa attacked and killed Darshani Ekanayake, her four children, including a two-month-old infant, and a family friend, Gamini Amarakoon, in their Ottawa townhouse. Last week, De-Zoysa was sentenced to life in prison.

Despite surviving the attack, Darshani’s husband Dhanushka Wickramasinghe has faced delays in his application for permanent residency on compassionate grounds. Although the application was approved in principle nearly a year ago, he has received no updates since.

Dhanushka’s brother and father, who came from Sri Lanka to support him, have also submitted their permanent residency applications but have received no response. Additionally, Dhanushka’s brother is requesting an extension of his temporary resident permit to continue working in Canada.

The government has denied visitor visas for his wife and daughter, leaving the family separated and under emotional stress. The family has appealed for stability in residency and employment to help them recover from the trauma and rebuild their lives.

The family emphasized that their appeal is solely to ensure they can live safely and securely in Canada after the horrific events, and to regain some normalcy and stability in their lives following the tragedy.
