Britain’s Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philip described the situation as a “complete failure” of the government and said that urgent and tough measures are necessary to prevent abuse of the visa system. He added that this loophole not only weakens the system but also affects the rights of genuine beneficiaries.
According to experts, some of the major reasons for the increasing asylum applications by Pakistanis include political uncertainty, economic pressure, limited employment opportunities and the use of legal windows in the British immigration system. UK immigration authorities are under severe pressure from record asylum applications this year, leading to unusual delays in decisions on fresh cases. The report has also sparked debate within the Pakistani overseas community about whether this use of the asylum system is appropriate or whether it could further exacerbate the difficulties of legally resident Pakistanis.
