Canada Post Ready for Holiday Rush, Expects On-Time Delivery

The True Post (Web News)Canada Post says it is fully prepared to handle the increased volume of mail and parcels during the holiday season and expects timely delivery following the labor disputes of the past two years. On Tuesday, the postal service stated that commercial shipments are proceeding as usual, and it continues to manage its network efficiently, processing and delivering new items safely and promptly.

Canada Post spokesperson Lisa Liu said in an email statement, “We are fully prepared to support businesses during the busiest season and to deliver for Canadians this holiday.”

She added that mail and parcels are moving as expected, pickups are underway, and new items are being processed and delivered safely and efficiently.

Last month, Canada Post and the union representing thousands of its mail carriers reached a principle agreement on new contracts. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) suspended rotating strikes while both parties finalize the contract language. Canada Post also agreed to the same terms regarding any potential lockout actions.

In recent years, both sides had clashed over wage increases and workforce structure changes, including proposals to increase part-time employees and provide seven-day-a-week delivery.

During collective bargaining, postal workers staged several strikes, including a disruptive strike last year just before the holidays. At that time, the federal government requested intervention from the Canada Industrial Relations Board and set up an Industrial Inquiry Commission to determine a path forward.

CUPW, representing 55,000 Canada Post employees, announced a nationwide strike on September 25, just hours after the federal government announced changes to Canada Post’s business model, including ending door-to-door delivery for nearly all households.

The union later moved to rotating stoppages in October before reaching a principle agreement.

Lisa Liu advised customers to check Canada Post’s website for any service alerts affecting domestic or international deliveries. She also suggested that when shopping online, customers review retailer shipping details and select the delivery option that best meets their needs.
